Why sell with our Agency?

At some point in ownership, you may decide it is time to sell your vehicle  and move on to a newer model, or perhaps you just want something different. There are a few things that must be done in order to prepare the vehicle for sale.

Polish it up
Wash and wax the vehicle. Have the interior and trunk area professionally cleaned. Steam clean the engine. Touch up nicks with matching touch up paint, which is available at a dealership or many body shops. Fix any drivability problems and leaks.   A car dealer will give you as little as possible so he can turn your vehicle around and sell it for profit. This is money you can make on your own selling it privately. Should you decide to sell your car on your own, make sure to include the year/make/model, mileage, options, price and a phone number or e-mail address when advertising it. Remember, selling a vehicle can be dangerous. (Personal note: My uncle and Aunt were tied up in their home and robbed while showing his truck to two thugs pretending to be buyers! (It happened in Goldsboro North Carolina)     Have a friend or relative accompany you when people come over to look at your vehicle and when going on test drives, as it is not a good idea to be alone with a stranger in your home or vehicle. Plan on having a few dinners interrupted as well as spending a few evenings,  Saturday's and Sunday’s on the phone. Expect people to show up unannounced  to look at and test drive your vehicle.

Receiving payment
Never accept a personal check. Ask for a cashier's check or our favorite a wire transfer. If the buyer is financing the purchase through a bank, a check may be issued to you from that bank. Depending on the circumstances, you may have to meet him/her at their bank to receive the funds. This would also be a good time to write up the bill of sale and have it signed and notarized.

If the buyer has no options other than a personal check, insist that the vehicle will be delivered AFTER the check has cleared and the funds are available. Unless the buyer has ulterior motives, this shouldn't be a problem for him/her.

After the sale
Notify your motor vehicle department and let them know you have sold the vehicle. This way you will not be held accountable if the new owner gets  tickets while driving it.
